Details In this evening we will explore the topics of spiritual community, guidance and the tension between authority and freedom. The talk will centre around life on the Tantric Path – specifically in the teachings of Tara Yoga Centre. Kieran Dowling spent 15 years in Tara as a student, teacher, community member and Karma Yogi (volunteer/helper). Having left London and the community in August last year, he recently published a book on his direct experience. Tara: Inside Out – 15 Years With the Black Sheep of Yoga is a detailed description of the main practices he encountered in this 15 years. This evening is not so much focused on the book as it is “around the book” – the context within which all these practices and experiences took place. It offers a rare insight from someone who was paradoxically enmeshed in a spiritual community and the material world simultaneously. Furthermore, having had the benefit of stepping back from the community for the last 10 months, Kieran is well placed to look from the outside in, and the inside out. The first part of the evening will be presentation style, but then open up to a dynamic and interactive Q&A with the audience. The gathering will be rounded off with a mediation at the end. Copies of the book will be available for purchase on the night.
