IN BETWEEN — HAN YUKA ZURI /// PARTIAL SUSPENSION LAB 3 Attendance needs : Duo/ Couple Workshop Level: Intermediate / Advanced this workshop continues the In Between partial suspensions series: a sequence of Shibari Labs dedicated to exploring partial suspension through structure, sensation, and somatic conscious learning. In this 6 hours lab we will explore a variety of classical partial suspensions shapes, we will investigate how different structures behave under partial load, how to create reliable attachment points, and how to introduce partial suspension safely while maintaining connection, communication, and emotional presence between Bakushi (rigger) and Ukete (model). This is not about “pulling someone up.” This is about learning how the pelvis carries the story of gravity through rope. ✨What We Will Explore 1) Kata - Ashikubi partial suspension 2) Futumomo Partial suspension 3) Hashigata Partial Suspension 4) Gyaku Ebi Partial 5) Kata - ashi Kaykyaku and transition Kata - Ashikubi , a partial suspension involving a chest harness and one leg creating various possibility for play, working with exposure, shame and sensory play Load-bearing vs decorative elements Pelvic anatomy awareness: hip bones, soft tissue, and pressure mapping Stability without squeezing: comfort, spacing, circulation Centre of Gravity & Body Control Where the body wants to hang from (and why) How hip harnesses create balance and prevent rotation Guiding posture through rope: pelvis tilt, spine pathways, grounded elegance Reading feedback through breath, tone, and alignment Attachment Points & Tension Management Building clean, reliable connection points Preventing harness drift, collapse, or “riding up” Tension distribution: what holds, what supports, what should stay soft Micro-adjustments that create major comfort shifts Uplines for Hip Harness Line placement and direction (what each angle does to the body) Single-line and dual-line approaches Managing rotation, asymmetry, and stability Testing load progressively and safely Partial Suspension Techniques Supported lifts, assisted leans, hip-led tilts, and gentle sweeps Combining hip harness + leg harness principles (weight-sharing logic) Safe re-landing, decompression, and transitions When to pause, adjust, or come down ✨ Who This Lab Is For Advanced beginners / intermediate / advanced Riggers and Models comfortable with single & double column ties, Hojo Cuffs and frictions, a Futomomo and have prior experience tying at least one type of chest harness TK or harmless chest harness eNot suitable for complete beginners. 🧵 What to Bring 9-12 ropes (8–10 m) Comfortable clothing that allows movement some snacks if you like 🏳️🌈 Inclusivity Rope Jam Studio is proudly LGBTQIA+, FLINTA, POC, and kink-positive. All bodies, identities, and dynamics are welcome. Consent, care, and mutual respect are the foundation to our practice. 🕒 Format 6-hour lab ✨ Series Context This lab is part of the In Between series. Each lab focuses on a specific harness or tie adapted for partial suspension, building skill, sensitivity, and confidence progressively, providing everytiem new thoughts, perspectives and ideas, tools for creation with ropes.
