Stanmore Country Park
Ancient earthworks, buried landfill (and treasure), London Clay, signs of a melted glacier: join me for a special summer solstice excursion at the end of the Jubilee line where we will exchange stories and stones as we discover the hidden geology under our feet here in London... As we venture across this slither of the Barnet Plateau, the underground world will be made more sense-able as we walk, talk, listen and seek out shared resonances together. This event forms part of Solidarities, a new artistic project commissioned by Barnet Council for the Light + Flight festival. The project will surface and celebrate our geologic heritage in common and as a commons while the term 'Solidarities' alludes to the apparent solidity and grounding qualities of rock and the act of being in solidarity with others across difference. Participants are invited to bring along a stone or rock they are happy to gift to the art installation. There will be an invitation to discuss these during the walk if people want to! Useful information: The starting point for this walk will be Stanmore Country Park, Kerry Avenue (about 5 mins walk from Stanmore Station) This event takes place outdoors so come dressed from the weather! Please note this walk has some accessibility limitations: the terrain is uneven and not suitable for wheelchairs. There are no toilet facilities or cafes. Please feel free to contact me in confidence if you have any questions beckyl.lyon@googlemail.com This event has been designed for and risk-assessed for 18+ adult audiences only.
